Jenkins: Confederate Blockade Runner
Jenkins: Confederate Blockade Runner, a tale of redemption, is based on the remarkable life - and loves - of adventurer, settler, and Confederate hero, C.T. Jenkins. Born into a prominent family in 1800s Baltimore, Jenkins shrugs off the mantle his father attempts to foist on him after spending his own life establishing the family dynasty.
Jenkins decision to relinquish his rightful fortune and dash into discovery and adventure pitches him into a life as independent as it is solitary as he scouts for Coffee's Militia, and takes part in the rescue attempt of Dade's ill-fated military mission.
A mid-life encounter with Vermont’s Lucy Colburn, his intellectual and emotional equal, prompts C.T. to consider the toll the abandonment of his Baltimore family may have taken. He gravitates toward Mrs. Colburn, with only one reservation: widowed, she is ten years his senior. But, she has an ingénue daughter for whom Mrs. Colburn seeks a suitable match. Jenkins, who has matured into a courtly gentleman, is being considered by Mrs. Colburn in what could become a December-May union. However, the quiet beauty, Eliza, prefers the suave, but opportunistic, Taylor Babcock.
Just as Jenkins life begins anew it is interrupted by the Civil War and C.T. joins Florida's 9th Infantry. C.T. is ultimately captured by Union forces off Florida’s Gulf Coast for the crime of blockade running. Facing a life sentence, he realizes that to survive Boston’s Fort Warren prison he must realign with his Baltimore family, thus gaining access to family resources. But, C.T. finds that resolving the issues that his youthful desertion created is more challenging than any of the achievements attained from his many exciting adventures.
